How we intend to behave matters as much as what we intend to build.
These Phase 1 commitments explain the principles that will guide governance, partnerships, beneficiary engagement and platform development. Formal legal policies will continue to be reviewed by Kenyan counsel as the PBO structure is established.
Non-partisan commitment
Umoja Kenya is intended for Kenya and its people. It will not be affiliated with or controlled by a political party, electoral campaign or individual political interest. It may work constructively with the Government of the day, county governments and public institutions while remaining institutionally independent.
Equal opportunity & non-discrimination
Participation, partnerships and access to opportunities should be based on relevant criteria, capability, need, integrity and program purpose — not political affiliation, tribe, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability or other unrelated personal characteristics. Reasonable accessibility and inclusion should be built into programs and digital services.
Respect for teachers, professors and senior experience
Umoja Kenya recognizes the contribution of educators and experienced professionals who have spent decades preparing younger generations. Retired principals, professors, technical instructors and respected senior professionals may serve as mentors, advisers, trainers and pilot champions, subject to independent vetting and role clarity.
Privacy & data commitment
The platform will collect only data reasonably required for registration, program delivery, measurement and partner coordination. Sensitive data should not be publicly displayed by default. Future profile, finance, verification and AI functions will require additional consent, security and governance controls before activation.
Partnership principle
Where Umoja Kenya needs specialist services outside its core domain, it will seek credible expert partners rather than attempt to duplicate existing capability. This may include legal, accounting, finance, insurance, health, training, technology, logistics and other specialist areas.
